My wife was taking a smoke break with her friend at the choo choo . She heard a loud noise and looked up and seen a seen a hawk hit some power lines while grabbing its prey . The wing of the hawk was detached or should I say blown apart and the hawk its prey still in its claws fell to the ground along with its severed wing. She took a
picture of it with her camera phone after maintenance put it on a plastic bag.

Here is the pic. had to resize.

That looks like a peregrine falcon. I hope it's not!

Definitely NOT a pregrine. I can't tell you what it is... Except for peregrines, redtails and Marsh hawks... I don't know my hawks well. But it is not a peregrine. Sad situation. My family laughed at me Monday... while we were out duck hunting Monday, my friend found a redwing blackbird with a broken wing. I carried it around in my pack all day and brought it home hoping it would survive. Sadly... as with most "captured" wild critters, too much stress and it didn't survive the night.

Hard to tell. I made the pic bigger and it just got blurry. But you definately dont want to keep it, they are protected federally. Here is a pic of my Redtail from last year for comparison though.
