Took a short trip Sunday afternoon to do some drifting for cats . I have been trying a new bait and it is working great, using crappie scraps from ones I have filleted. We caught 6 and had several bites . The best two were 50 lbs each!

We used to fish for catfish a lot and have caught several trophies...but it seemed like 80% of our better fish came off of crappie heads...

1 have not tried the heads , been using the ribs with the belly flap that I removed from the fillets.

We would cut them right behind the gills and had a ton of luck on them...Might not be worth changing if you are catching fish like these, but I would not throw the heads away for sure!

Please note I'm not trying to start a fight, I'm also no expert in the law but you may want to be careful with the crappie heads. There would be no way to prove that they are the correct length. According to how I read the regulation creel limit and size limit are still enforced. Silly I know but still. I would hate to see you get a ticket or worse, by an over zealous warden.
