Desktop tower repair

Have a gateway desktop dx4870-ub308 and think the motherboard has gone bad,just shut down and mon,keyboard,and mouse won't work,wont load up,all clean inside and fans running and memory checked out ok at best buy,need help pretty quick,thanks Taylor cell# 421-6666

What happens when you power it up, Doc? Do you get any system BIOS info on the screen, a series of beeps, etc? Some will have LED's on the back that will display error codes. Any chance you can remove the CPU and have Best Buy test that? If you have to replace the motherboard, since it's a Gateway brand, there's a good chance it will have some architecture that is proprietary to Gateway. This will probably mean you'll have to get the replacement motherboard from them - if it's still available. If it's over 2-3 years old, it may be cheaper to replace it with a new one and have your data recovered off your old hard drive. Bad deal either way.
