Anyone here have any knowledge or personal experience with fishing in Destin? I am thinking about taking a party boat out and fishing off the piers and jetties. I will be going i Sept. Thanks

the swoop is the best party boat in destin. They actually had a small wahoo and couple kings on wed 10 hour trip. mostly squirrel fish and b liners. read my post from earlier. find you 3 other people and split the 500 bucks. you will not regret it. I am trying to get another weekend trip together for next month!!!

Thanks for the report. I have chartered a few boats my own before but never get the variety that I like to catch. I was looking at the swoop earlier today and thinking about taking it out.. Have you been on it before or know anyone that has? I was thinking about the 8 hour or 10 hour. How frequent are the sharks as well? THanks

FULL DRAW C/B WAS HAVING GOOD CATCHES WHEN I WAS DOWN THERE IN APRIL, AND IF YOU DECIDE ON A PARTY BOAT I WOULD RECOMEND THE " SWEET JODY " LOCALS WERE CATCHING SPANISH MACKERALS AND COBIA OFF OF THE PIER. GOOD LUCK EITHER WAY.

you will rarely see a shark on a party boat. too many tangled lines. there are guys that fish for them. Fish On charters will charter a shark fishing trip also but i am not sure how good they are at it. typically all you will catch is b liners, squirrel fish, white snapper, a few red snapper the occasional grouper and a few kings by accident.

I have fished in Destin on party boats and charters for about 25 years now. There used to be some great party boats but they are all but gone now. The Emanuel, the florida girl, the lady eventheia were all greats.

The Destin fleet has became more of a tourist trap lately. there are still some great captains there but be careful who you go with. the biggest thing is do not walk up to any charter service and ask for any ole boat. The good capt stay booked by repeat customers so the charter services do all they can to try and get the not so good captains walk up business.

i've never taken a party boat out of destin but have taken around 10 charters out of there. my favorite group is olin marler (marlor) charters. capt. greg marler or capt. frank teams are my two favorites. the charters are going to run you a lot more money than a party boat i imagine, but its far fewer people to get in your way. although over the last few years as it becomes more touristy, there are more and more people on the chargers. 15 years ago you could get on a boat and it would only have 6 or 8 people on board, now its almost double that.

Ill have to agree with Fishheadspin the swoop is an awsome boat i went out on it in march had a great time and caught lots of grouper, snapper although it wasnt snapper season and couldnt keep em the captain is great he stood on the pier and talked to us for an hour or longer the day we went out telling us where he was going to go and what type fish he was expecting us to catch i would rate it the best party boat in destin plus it is smaller and not a real big crowd goes on it the very next day i went out on the new florida girls american primcess and wished i wouldve stayed at the motel that is the worse deep sea fishing experiance i have ever had i would not go back on it for anything
