Went to Destin to take step son on fall break for some deep sea fishing. I found DEAD FISH CHARTERS in Grayton Beach on the net and gave Capt Larry a try. i asked for an 8 hout charter but Capt. told me there is no use in that long of a trip you can cathc all you want in 4. I thought he was a nut but I agreed. After this past summers trip with the Destin fishing fleet nothing could be much worse!

Capt Larry's niche is "beach fishing." he picks you up on the beach in his boat and you run 10 minutes to the first spot. Immediately wyatt (step son) puts keeper snapper after keeper in the boat. Meanwhile, my father and I can not get one in the boat! God looks out after children, no doubt!

We ended up with a 4 man limit of snapper and grouper, several kings, 10 bluefish, 1 spanish and 1 vermillion.

This is a 4 hour charter! We never were more than 2 miles from the beach! ANd unlike the charter fleets, we FISHED 4 hours. no bait catching for an hour, Capt did that before we got there. No 2 hour rides out to fishing grounds.

We caught more in the 4 hours than i ever have on an 8 or 10 hour charter out of Destin.

We did not catch any monsters but Wyatt caught a grouper about 10 lbs. I also got my A$$ handed to me by a very nice something (Grouper) that ran into a hole in the rock and cut me off after a 15 min fight! We had our chances!

OH yeah, the price for a 4 hour charter is 450 bucks for 4 people! 6 hour 650.

Anyone wanting to catch fish give DEADFISHCHARTERS a try. He will not disappoint.

i am wanting to get a trip back down there in the next 2 weeks if anyone is interested!

RE: Destin snapper/grouper

We just got back from Tybee Isl. near Savannah. I wanted to take a charter out but decided to try bank fishing first. We caught a ton of whiting (looked like a drum and im not sure if that is how you spell it) but I started cutting that up for bait and ended up catching a sting ray (actually a scate), caught an Atlantic Sharp nose Shark about 30 yards out, and a bonnet head shark (looks like a shovel head) about 30 yards out. We had several break us off since we were using 15 pound line and fresh water geaar. I got pictures but they got deleted when I was uploading them, hopefully my father in law has some ill post later. Both sharks were about 3-4 feet in length. Needlsee to say we never made a charter.

Sounds like fun FHS, were you fishing on artificial reefs? I know that there are lots of them on the Florida coast. If the fish are that close to the shore I would expect that you could get a local map and rent a boat for a lot less. I usually go the cheap route and figuring out the fish is a big part of the fun. I have some local topo maps of most of the Fla. coastline. If you or anyone else is interested sometime and the GPS coordinates of many of the artificial reefs can be found at Floridasportsman.com or other places on the internet. I hope that you get back down there, it sounds like great fun.

FHS, sounds like a great time. My 2 sons are wanting to take their first salt water fishing trip. That really does sound like a perfect intro. for them. Dont know when the right time for us will be though. I'll remember this post and holler at you one day, thanks.
