DHaun, Indian Pass, FL, Bull Reds, 1-20-2013

There are still a few bull reds around the pass, especially on the days the wind lays down a bit for me to run to my favorite spot off the beach. They are big fun but hard on the fishing reels. The huge tail on the first fish was a tough fight. Same area is also holding some trout and black sea bass. Water temp around 60. Including a few other pics of the area as well. I hope to get out and fish again in TN the next few weeks.

Nice fish. I go there and fish the oyster beds and weeds with new penny gulps, usually in November.

Great to hear that you are getting some of the big ones from the beach. I love to be on the beach but like it even better when I can get into some fish there too. Just a great combo!

Come back down for a long weekend and we will give it a shot in a few weeks. It's a gamble with the wind whether I can get to my spot and its been rare this time of year. I really need 5mph winds for a 25-30 minute run by boat out the pass and along the gulf by the beach but I can also drive on the beach about 20 minutes to get there too...but its a lot longer wait just on the edge of a good area - by boat can do a lot better.

I have not fished this area that much in April yet, but if its nice I hope to get out after some Cobia on some nearshore wrecks. I expect the trout and reds will be very active inshore from what I have heard.

Bull Reds come in close from the Gulf when the water is cool so not sure how long they hang out in close. I think I have heard of a few caught in early March but no sure about April. Good Luck!

Good Luck in April - should be a great time of year. The pictures make it look easy but I had to wait 3 weeks for a decent day with low winds to get out by boat. I have been skunked 6 out of 7 times targeting bull reds fishing the beach the last few weeks. Lots of time invested searching after work for good water. Big sharks are easier this time of year but they are way too big for the rod I am using
