I know a few of you fish this area and inquire every now and then - it's been several months since my last report so I thought might provide an update.

In spite of all the rain and cold fronts we have been able to enjoy a few days of good weather in between work this Fall and taking a few days off for the Holidays.

When the weather gets cold the fish slow down and run up into the creeks and canals and can either be difficult to locate or predictable based on ones past knowledge of the area.

The good thing is the bull reds show up and make for some exciting fishing trips. They are one of the hardest fighting fish on light tackle and its really cool to track one and then see one eat in shallow clear water and then rip off drag abusing your tackle.

They also get in large schools in the deeper water and that's a better choice with a boat full of anglers as multiple hook-ups can occur on the right day. I recently got a kayak that I can stand in so looking forward to sight fishing slot sized reds in skinny water after the Holidays.

I'll be in TN again for Christmas so if anyone needs help with gas on a striper fishing trip let me know. A few pics of Fall 2014 below:

Looks like you have that fishing dialed in. I love fishing flats & creeks in FL!

I've got an 18' Maverick HPX-V if you want to hook up sometime.

Let me know when you would like to hunt for stripers here, we can take my Ranger out.

It's a tough job, but someone has to do it. Great report, David. I love the pics. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

There aren't a lot of things (legal) in this world that are more fun than bull reds on light tackle...especially if you can them to eat on top. Great pics...

Big ole flounder. Nice reds. Was the areal pic from a drone

Yes - a friend just got a new drone and took a few pics of the area. Last time I checked on him he had lost it already...I suppose it crashed in the woods or something or got out of range,

Mavericks are nice boats - perfect for the skinny water around here - Sounds good - I'll have some free time in TN for a couple weeks - I know a few spots in Watts Bar we could try if the water temps are still decent.

What kayak did you get? I took mine to Cape San Blas this past June and had a blast in the bay. Limited out on reds/specks almost every day and caught flounder and ladyfish in the surf.

Thanks for the report!

I got a good deal on a wavewalk where I can sit, stand, and even lie down comfortably - Several anglers use them down here. I took it out yesterday after work and caught 6 reds in the lagoon way up in the skinny creeks. I have a bad back and recent experience in other kayaks leave me in pain unable to stand straight for hours. I can pole / paddle this new kayak standing up and sight fish in 3-4 inches of water. It only weighs 60lbs - so far its working out great.

I know a few other spots where I plan to use my boat as a mothership and explore some even better more remote fishing areas...just need to be careful of the gators that live there in warmer months :) I hear the Spring time is a great time to get in St Joe backwaters with a kayak - there are new areas I plan to explore in the next few months where my bay boat could never go.
