I was fortunate enough to spend all last week fishing out of Mexico Beach and it seemed like the fastest week of my life. Weather conditions were great for going offshore in DLancas 23ft Key West and it was really great to see the females experience some fun fishing this trip.
We visited our same productive numbers for kings, cobia, and snapper and ventured out even further to some new spots get on some hard-fighting Amberjack to fill up the freezer. The highlight of the trip was a 47 mile ride out to the blue water just outside the Madison Swanson reserve where we limited out on large AJs in the first hour on a sunken reef. We also fished some natural-bottom grouper coordinates that a friend had provided at the dock.
We were happy to see a few smoker king and one huge topwater snapper willing to cooperate this trip with a bonus cobia. We also chummed up a frenzy of sharks nearshore for some sight fishing action on light tackle for the girls.
Water temp was 86 - No real sign of oil yet but I am worried about its eventual arrival. I pray they can intercept it and it will do little damage to the pristine bays and estuaries in this area that provide habitat for the coming years hatch.
I noticed I had a few PMs when I logged on - I apologize for not replying. My old CFF email address that notifies me of PMs is no longer functional. I guess it quit working when they changed servers.
The report from my previous Memorial Day trip a few weeks ago is here for those interested in this fishery:
