I had some vacation around the Holidays and fished as much as possible in St Joe. The fish run up into the canal systems as the water temperature drops and I have been learning as much new water as possible...with some success and also some pretty slow days fishing miles of Intracoastal waterway in a canal that can sometimes all look exactly the same.
I have located a few productive areas using an artificial shrimp lure finesses style bouncing it off the bottom. The fish hit it on the drop requiring one to watch the line closely like crappie fishing. It’s been a lot of fun watching the fish density change and trying to figure things out . Loads of trout for a few days that mysteriously disappear only to be replaced by reds and sheepshead in the new areas I have located.
The huge reds have thinned out but I have caught a couple the last month in the bay along with black sea bass and some pompano off the beach. I hear there are still some bulls around Indian Pass as well and may try that the next time I get to go.
I know this is not a Chattanooga area report but I get several messages every month asking about what’s biting where down here from forum members who intend to visit so posting for those interested. It’s been a nice place to fish this Winter - water temps have been 51-55 on the last month. A few pics below of this great area and a few of the fish we have caught:
