Well I was back in action last night!I was so excited to go that I couldn't tell what time it was!I got to the ramp at 4 instead of 5 and there wasn't anyone around cept a little old lady that sales beer sitting on a picknick table smoking a cig.I asked her
if it was monday(I forget sometimes)she said yes but your an hour early honey.
Great what am I gonna do for an hour in this heat can't nap can'tgo home can't
fish yet.So I take a little ride to check out the water temps and warm up the big merc.
So finally everyone starts to show up,we draw a decent start number for a change
and things seem to be in place for a good night.
We started out in a ditch or cut that runs through Hiwassee island and did pretty well. We found some bass that were schooling in shallow water about 6-8 feet deep and caught 2 at the same time that we thought were going to be keepers,
then we put them on the "golden rule" story of my life 14 3/4
turns out the entire school was 14 3/4 . Alot of fun but we needed keepers so
we left there to go to our second spot,a shallow cove just up the river with alot of brush in about 3 to 6 feet of water.(Depth has not been a real issue lately if
baitfish are in the area)We caught 3 or 4 more there but once again to short
to keep so on to hole number three,Rogers creek.I have wanted to fish in the back of Rogers creek for some time now and finally got the chance last night.
Sort of...... I always have a sort-of in my story don't I.
Well as we were on our way back up the river we noticed some dark clouds
to the east that we didn't see before. We only got about 15 or 20 min in before
the lightning started and we once again spent another weigh-in hiding under a boat-house.45 min later and 15 min after weigh-in we make it back to the marina
to see who had won.Not even a mystery sp? anymore same dude that has won most of our tournaments this year.So I pulled out my $15 and told him to just go ahead and take his money for next week too!Just kidding but thats what I felt like saying.8lb something won 3 lb something was big fish (all caught buy the winner)
So thats the report for this week, only four left so if we're going to win this year
I'm going to have to get on the ball and find some quality fish soon! Till next week.

We fished Roger's Creek for the first time Saturday morning and I was not impressed. Spent about 3 hours in there and I only caught 2 "quality" largemouth; one on the stump to the right of the ramp and one on the big log to the left. We found that the back end before the bridge was filled with schools of those pesky white/stripe bass...they ate my poor brushhog's legs off every time I pitched in those little bushes on the creek channel. Now I can say I've been there, however, I won't be back until fall. For consistent, quality fishing, you can't beat Gunstocker Creek and Hiwassee Island.

Ranman, are you targeting spots or largemouth during your tournaments?

Dogfights are public, only four left before the classic. You need six to fish the classic.
I'm targeting largemouths, just that one week I went after spots to try for a quick limit.I know the best way to catch largmouths on the hiwassee is flipping but it's such a short amount of time that we have it's really hard to catch a limit unless you
get lucky.I hate to depend on luck. There are always shallow fish but they tend to run small, lots of bites - short fish,or fish deep= fewer bites bigger fish.I'm at a loss
I haven't been on quality fish in several weeks other that the odd one or two good fish that I've caught during practice time or fun fishing.
