First trip to Chick this year. Fished out of HBSP yesterday and today. First thing that hit me when I got to the ramp was how low the water is. Lowest its's been this far into March since '14.

As far as fishing went. Started out kind of slow yesterday morning. I only manged to get a few (2-2/12 LBs) to play early on with craw colored square bill in about 3 FOW on a secondary point leading back to a spawning cove. I also found a pack of them in about 12FOW in the middle of the same cove. As soon as I found them good old mother nature turned on the wind machine mid morning and made holding on them almost impossible.

Fishing anything main lake was too rough for me so I jumped up passed the power plant around noon and started running creek banks that had wind blowing straight in. I went a few hours with nothing and starting noticing bait flicking the surface. I wanted to get a look at them so I threw my casting net and caught 30 or 40 shad and about half of them were in the 3 or 4"s so I threw on a ghost shad colored 2.5 squarebill. From that point on it was game on. For about 2 hours I'm not sure I went more than 4 or 5 casts without boating a keeper. Most of them were around 2 with a couple of 3lb's thrown in and a 5 1/2 drum. Would have liked to get a big one to play but I'll never complain about that kind of action. Only downside is I didn't get to share it with my daughter, but hope to duplicate it next week and with any luck the big girls will move up by then.

Fished half day today and was a carbon copy of yesterday morning. Caught a few but nothing real big

Water temps in the AM were mid 40's in the creeks and saw a few 55's. The water is really clear for this time of year. If the weather holds and the rain doesn't color up the water the spawn could interesting this year. Unless we get a repeat of last year I'm guessing the grass will come back full strength this year as well.
