I may be an idiot, but I have a 997c & have just now started taking snapshots. Well, I have taken the SD card & put in my computer & it says its empty. Also I have a MacBook Pro, so any help with what I need to do or programs I need to download would be wonderful!

So they go on my sd card? Im trying to take my waypoints and load them on another sonar unit but use my navionics chip because the other unit doesn't have a chip.

I'm not a Mac User but Snapshots are Like Digital Photos and a Photo Viewing Program can be used to look at them. Make Sure you have the Snapshot Feature Turned on. Go to Master Menu and the far right tab will be accessories and make sure screen snapshot is on. You can also look at them if your scroll thru the VIEWS to the Snapshot Recording View and see the images too.

The waypoints arent stored on the navionics chips they go on the unit or onto another card.

You need to Export the Nav Data (Depending on Software Version where you do this) From the Navigation Menu Export All Nav Data or running later version with Waypoint Management you'll need to do it in the Waypoint Management Feature. You export them to a Blank SD Card. I would never recommend exporting to the mapping card because you could corrupt the data on the card and void it useless. I recommend locking the Mapping Card so it cannot accidently use it.

Its taking the snapshots, but my SD card shows no photos when I plug it into the computer. The SD card needs to be in the right slot & the Nav card in the left...right?

It can be in Either Slot. Can you see the snapshots on the Snapshot View? It's has a Gray Background when you scroll thru the View. I don't have an image of it handy right now but will get an example for you. IF you can't see them on the unit it's not saving to the SD Card. THe only place they save the image is to the SD Card. If saved to the SD Card they should be acessible on a computer.

Here is what the Snapshot Recording View looks like:
