does anyone know of a good place to go like a pay and hunt type field opening day would like to take my son

Check TWRA's web site. They post fields that they sponser that are private but open for a fee.

Has anybody hunted the TWRA Dove fields before? Are they usually packed with people?

I`ve hunted in them quite a bit....and yes there alot of people. I`ve also hunted in the private shoots too. If there are plenty of birds there`s usually plenty of people in both. Alchohol is not allowed in TWRA fields....not to say there isn`t a beer or 2 consumed but I`ve never seen it be a bad situation. I have at a few private shoots.

Where is it located? On the TWRA site, I could not find anything in Hamilton County? What is the procedure for hunting it?

Hey Jtablada, The unit on Cassandra Smith Rd is under the north chickamauga creek w.m.a. and is named the Varner unit. Go to the TWRA web site click on" find a dove field" then click on region 3, then north chickamauga creek w.m.a. There will be two hunt sites on this w.m.a., directions to both are on the web page and pay attention to the regulations. This w.m.a. has a few quirks to the regs. Good luck.

OK, I found the details of the fields in Hixson. It looks like there are actually 4? Is this correct?

I would like to get out to one of them. However, I have never hunted on public or WMA land. Any advice as to protocol and rules would be much appreciated. If anyone is planning to go to any of the fields close to hixson in the next couple of weeks, let me know.

can non-hunters go to the WMA in N. Chick? My wife may want to come out and sit with me while I hunt. She doesn't have a license and will not be touching a gun. Can we do this?
