Made another round today. Many of the regular fields are behind on cuttin` corn, although most have alot done.

Billy Barr has his main field cut and leftseveral rows down the middle for chopping and blowing on the ground, much more than previous years.

"Snake " Robert Watson has about the same set up .

A.J.Smith has very little cut which will help the other fields since he hasn`t had a public hunt in years and usually has the most birds.

Harrison`s has none cut in the field I hunted last year, But I spotted a big field not too far away that left some uncut rows around the edge of the field for no apparent reason. I`d almost bet this will also be a lease field

The chopping and blowing of corn on the ground usually a week before the season is a practice the TWRA has been encouraging with the lease farms for several years. It seems to work pretty good but I`ve felt like several times they didn`t chop and blow enough on the ground. Billy has left probably five times as much as he left last year for choppin` and blowin`. I personally prefer the spreading of winter wheat seed but the timing of that can make a bigdifference. One good shower and the seed will sprout in about 3 days and the birds won`t touch it.

The other thing that I`ve noticed is the tremendous increase in the number of birds I`m seeing on my drive arounds. Last year I could tell it was gonna be tuff early on because I was seeing few birds. I`d guess probably 10 times as many birds this year and some are already using the fields even though none have been blown on the ground yet.

I expect with the dry weather forcasted for this coming week that most ofwhat is left will be cut and should blow the leftover rows toward the end of the week.

These fields are within a mile or two of the Philadelphia /Loudon/Sweetwater exits off I-75... some can be seen from the interstate.
