I made a tour today and this is what I found.
Billy Barr #1 :cornfield has been been cut in the last week. He has done the TWRA approved method of leaving 6-8 rows standing about midway from the center of the field to the outer edge. He will bush hog these rows about a week before the season opens. The first time they did this ,I didn`t think it would draw many birds but I had one of my better hunts this way. This also tells me that he is going to hunt this field either by TWRA lease or pay hunt. Should be a good field...about 40 acres.
Billy Barr #2: corn still standing but has made a couple of rounds around the field with the chopper. They hunted this field last year for the first time and I believe they waited a little late to prepare it. They had some birds but not many hunters.
A.J. Smith`s Farm: A.J. has about 3 different fields he has hunted over the years and most years he has a lease for group of guys Sometimes he has a special field just for them. If he has a lot of birds and has the fields cut..he opens the rest up to the public for a fee. He has about 250 acres in these 3 fields and right now he has cut about a 1/3 in the last week. I will try to catch him and find out what he`s going to do this year. I`ve had some real good hunts on his place.
Robert Watson : he has about half of his 75 acres cut ....some years he hunts.... some years he don`t
Snake Watson: he has cut about 3/4 of his 200 acres in the last week. He didn`t leave the standing rows like he did last year so I expect him to do a little disking and throw some winter wheat seed out. He always has a pay hunt and/or has TWRA leased the last 2-3 years. I`m sure he`ll have some good hunting fields ready.
Josh Watson: Snakes son has an adjoining 30 acres in Millet this year. Last year they had about half of it designated for a TWRA Special Hunt for Handicapped Hunters. Not sure exactly how he`s going to hunt it , but I`ll find out.
Sweetwater Valley Cheese Farm : He has cut nearly all of his 100+ acres ...Not sure if he`s gonna hunt .
