I recently pulled the drain plug on my boat and got a little surprise. The plug AND the brass tube both came out! The brass tube was extremely corroded such that about half of it was totally eaten away. It wouldn't have took much for the plug to have come out while I was in the water. :( I believe it was caused by battery acid overflowing during charging. ...................................Another good reason to switch to the newer type AGM batteries, huh?

Same thing happened to me less than a month ago Sam. I noticed that the back of the boat was riding low, turned on the bilge pump and watched it pump water out for 5 minutes. After the water drained, I shined a flashlight, (it was at night) in the compartment and watched as water came in through the drain plug. Later that night after I got home, I pulled the drain plug and everything came out. All of it was corroded from what I assume as the same reason you stated. Got a new drain insert from Boaters World and installed it along with a new plug in 5 minutes.

Did the same repair you did, glued mine in with some of that "underwater epoxy" plus some silicon for good measure. I plan on replacing my batteries (3) with Optima's as soon as I catch Moma not guarding the checkbook! ;) I've been wanting to do that for awhile and this plug problem gives me a good excuse. :)

Thanks for the feeback,

Sam
