Before anyone thinks I'm an anti-livebait fisherman, Both of my PB largemouth and smallmouth were caught on live shiners. I picked up a couple of 6" floating, shallow diving crankbaits (similiar to Rapalas) that I thought would be good candidates to use instead of live shad. My question:

Has anyone compared dropshot rigging where the lure is tied directly to the main line to a three-way swivel arrangement where the lure follows the main line 18 or so inches behind the main line?

I'm thinking of using the boat drift (either using the wind or the TM on slow) to induce a slow wobble to the crank bait. A shad minnow that's almost dead will just barely move as it tries to swim.

Of course, this whole plan is to find some other way to fish the deep humps without wearing myself out cranking a DD22.

Bprice - 6/2/2007 9:25 AM I've heard of folks carolina rigging crankbaits on Tim's Ford?

Although I have never fish this rig, I do believe it would be most effective...( Carolina rigged with a floating Rapala ) should be deadly. MB, we may try that next time.... If we ever get to go...LOL

MB, I have tried someting similar, but I used a deep-diving crankbait and a 2 oz sinker. It didn't work very well. I never thought of a thin floating Rapala! That just may be the trick! Let the weight do the work and the lure just give the action! Great idea!!!!!!!!!!!

i personally have witnessed this technique on douglas lake several x most of the locals up there use a big dd22 with a 2oz-3-oz sinker or carolina rig a big one ounce jig . works well (when the water is up)and the humps top off in 35ft. of water. this year though with the lack of rain the humps are topping out in about ten ft. most of you know this lake flucuates 40-50-ft over the winter.spooky fishing down the bank in winter and look up to see boats dry-docked vertical hanging over your head by chains. mb have used a floater behind c-rig works pretty good. another option use a super slow reel 4:3:1 or similar fritts model or the old lews bb1ng gets the bait down without all the work of the faster ratios.

i gave up working on my first million i've started on my second dunc

Not a bad idea! At this point, I'm ready to try just about anything! Fished the Thursday night Harrison with Cory Nichols this week...zero. Fished the Christian Anglers one Friday Night...zero'd again! I cant take much more!!!

I like that right tharemoUpsmile emoUpsmile emoUpsmile I wonder if SW carries them?

Why not satisfy the Bait Monkey, and get the David Fritts cranking reel, that has the slow gear ratio, for fishing the DT cranks? ;)

Try Carolina rigging a baby minus 1...If the DD22s wear you out try slow rolling a 1 ounce SB or crawling a large jig on the humps. I personally have not done well on cranks this year, but others have.

Everybody & there brother is throwing a C-rig! You want to catch a big fish? Get you a 1oz jig & put you a pork chunk on it! You won't catch #er's but wht you catch will be good fish.

I've tried the c-rig / rapala combo several times. I have yet to make it past a dozen casts on any occasion before getting hung up and losing the rapala. Veeeery aggravating to say the least.
