We started out the day running to our normal starting slough and proceeded all the way back into the grass. Throwing a fluke and missile baits creature bait we started catching fish. About thirty minutes later some idiot comes motoring in and stops 30 feet from us fishing towards us, effectivity cutting us off. (Pic below) Of course, this angered me to the point of saying something, because with an entire lake someone has to come in and fish right beside you. It was only made better because in the time this numbskull was beside we caught three fish, including a 3 pounder, to his goose egg. Finally fished around the bend and we caught two more keepers, giving us a limit around 10am or so. As the slough started to get more and more boat, we decided to move to a marina we had not fished in a while. We moved in there and caught a 17.50 inch smallmouth off some rocks underneath a raised boat. Hated to let her go, but she was a little short (2nd time this year we have had one close, but no cigar). Finally around 11:45 we moved to another marina hoping to copy the success we had last weekend. The fish were not on the same pattern. The pattern we did find them on was a grass edge. I picked up a SK thumper worm and we started thumping them in numbers, catching 6-7 fish in just a couple of minutes. Then the rain came...a downpour ensued, and apparently the fish ran for cover. After that the bite cutoff. We worked around the grass and about 12:45 Dusty felt a thump swimming a jig...a big kicker fish...He got him almost to the boat when the fish flipped and came off...That one hurt, with that five pounder we could have gotten into double digits and been looking at making a run at the money. Anyway, we continued to fish until 1:30, and knew then based on our scales we had close to 8 pounds in the live well, with a spot as well. We moved to the mouth of the marina and...the motor would not crank. Plenty of gas...dead battery. Not just dead...way dead. We tried to call a few fellow anglers to come get our fish but no one answered. We then called Tow Boat and Charlie quickly got to us within half and hour. Before he arrived the clock struck 2pm, so we photographed and weighed our fish (7.75) before releasing them back into the water. After much trying, he finally got the battery to crank and we sped back to HBSP, since I had the payout in dry storage. We got back to find two buffoons loading their pontoon boats. Dusty went ahead to get the truck and the sky opened up, all while I watched one guy load his boat, pull out of the water, then back back down the ramp to reload his boat. As you can guess my already high BP was going even higher. We finally got loaded and after paying out headed to the house.

All but two fish of 25 fish caught in 1-4 feet of water on jig/creature bait/fluke/shaky head/worm. Culled 4 times total. While losing the kicker fish hurt, what hurt even more was missing the weigh in and the points

Sorry about your your troubles Patrick. Get a set jumper cables, they have saved me a couple of times. Sorry we left early, we were wore out and frustrated. If I was around you guys, I would have surely helped.

I change my batteries every 3 years no matter what. Had one two many die on me and they were all older than 3 years.

Well I made the investment last night and changed out all of mine. Not sure how old the trolling motor batteries were, but the cranking battery was a little over three years.

Good call, I don't care what they claim. I think they make those to die right after the warranty runs out. emoBang Use to last a lot longer. Now with only a one year warranty on most of them the dang things are lucky to last two years. I do fish a lot but still feel they do that to keep a constant flow of customers coming. emoAngry Jmax
