Headed to Riverpark and put in water a little after six. Ran to first spot and about fifteen minutes in I hooked a monster catfish that drug us around for 10 minutes or so before coming loose. It was a monster and had to top the 52 pounder I caught down there 10 years ago. Headed to our next spot and about ten minutes in Dusty had a fish on. He acted nonchalant about it until the fish came up the first time and it was the biggest largemouth I have ever seen on the river. I have only caught one fish that weighed nine pounds and felt this fish was every bit of that. We had our net buried in storage so I told him to get it close to the boat and I would scoop it. As he got it close the fish took one last jump and when he did the line broke. We did not say a word, we just went back to fishing. Caught 7-8 more fish in that spot before heading to a final place right after dark. Once there I pulled out a big worm and started throwing it when I felt a bump. Got her in and it was a gorgeous, fat smallmouth. Threw her back in. After that we caught a few more fish and decided to head in as it appeared they were raising the water. Around Heritage landing we hit something that was under the surface which scared us, but when we got back and loaded we could not see any damage to the hull. Fun but frustrating day. Wish Dusty could have landed Hawgzilla but it was not meant to be. Reminder when fishing the river to retie often as the rocks can damage your line.
