Creig joined me for the last outing in 2013. Great day!! we fished from 9:30 to 4 and caught fish all day long. fished from Sewee Creek down toward Clear creek. water was flowing over 60 cfs and lake elevation was within 3 ft of summer pool. No good for sauger but crappie generally get in the slack areas adjacent to the deep drops and will feed shallow in these conditions. Wind was calm which allowed us to fish anywhere. water temp was 47 - 48 degrees and the crappie generally want a very slow presentation. For that we use a 1/32 feather jig suspended under a very small float --- the jig set at 2 - 4 foot under the float. Today we used a jig that was chartreus/yellow with yellow head. what we learned early was that line choice made a difference. Creig was using 4 lb flouracarbon coated line and I was using 6 lb fireline flame color. he had 4 crappie and I had zero. I switched to 4 lb flouracarbon line and caught fish for fish remainder of the day. we kept all keeper crappie and the bigger shellcrackers. I tried a worm at one spot and caught a bluegill or shell cracker every cast for 10 casts, but our flies were catching just as many and they are much nicer in cold weather. ended the day with 27 keeper crappie, 10 shellcracker --- I suspect we released 50 to 100 smaller crappie and bluegills. We also caught 2 spots about 12 inch long and one drum for the day.
