With Central High School being on fall break, I had a chance to take a teacher crappie fishing. Jerry is a good guy and a pretty good crappie fisherman as well. We were on the water about 2 hours when we heard thunder rolling in the background. I immediately told him that this chicken hits the ramp when lightening gets close. We fished about 10 more minutes, heard more thunder, and then a very light sprinkle started. He didn't have a rain suit, so we opted to call it a day. Good choice. We barely got the boat on the trailer and the 4 keepers transferred to his bucket when the bottom fell out. But we made it in without getting too wet.
We fished very close to HBSP as I had a Dr appt and couldn't get very far. It was a good thing to with the weather moving in. We landed 10 shorts in addition to the 4 keepers and 2 yellow bass. Wind was calm when we first started, but got up very fast and made open water fishing very difficult, so we hit the ramp when the thunder started. We caught the fish deep on 15 to 20 counts with 1/16 oz jig heads with Bobby Garland's glued on.
I have to find some more fish before the Forgotten Child Tournament this coming Sunday.
Thanks for the short trip, Jerry. We will try again some day soon.
