Fishing Machine, Day 2: Terry Rogers went with me again today as I was scouting for the upcoming tournament. I forgot to check about the wind, so I asked Terry if he listened to the weather report about the wind. He said that the wind was supposed to be calm today. Well, some of that calm wind was white capping the lake in many places today. emoBang
The fish weren't nearly as active or aggressive as they were yesterday, although we did catch the same number of keeper sized crappie (19) and we had more shorts today than yesterday. Bonus fish for us today was a nice white bass by Terry and a small spotted bass by me. Both of the bass went home to make Wanda happy. She wanted me to keep crappie today, but I promised that I would take some home next week after the tournament. We had good quality fish today for the most part. We didn't catch any TARP sized crappie, but we were sure trying. We had several over 12 up to about 13 long.
I was pleased to see that the Cracker Barrel (my pet name for one of my crappie condos) produced two very nice sized keepers. We left those fish alone rather quickly. Moved on to different spots. We fished different places today than yesterday, except that we ended up on the bluff near Tyner Lane ramp while we waited on Wanda to bring the truck and trailer down. We saw Catfish1 and Fishaddiction on that bluff. They told me where the fish were and left. So, we caught a few before we left. emoBigsmile
Bobby Garland MM Baby Shads on 1/16 oz jig heads was the ticket today. I threw a couple of different colors for a very short while to see if the fish would hit another color, but didn't stay with the colors long enough to tell for sure. I'm sure that Patriot and Crystal Shad with tail lights would produce like they did yesterday. Water temp was about the same, I think. I really didn't check today. It was 52.9 yesterday.
Also, saw 2jigs in the Tyner Lane slough when we launched this morning. We chatted him up a little bit. He and partner were chasing trashy green fish, but told me that our crappie club was going to have some competition from bass anglers in our tx as all the regular tournament trails are over, I think. Bring'em on!
I'm going with Dr Phil in the morning. He wants some fish for his freezer, so we will be hitting places that I don't intend to fish during the tournament. emoBigsmile emoUpsmile emoGeezer
