Friday's are Dr Phil's day off, so we hit the lake searching for crappie for our upcoming tournament on Sunday. We found a great spot that I have never actually fished before and loaded the boat with keepers. I have scanned this place before, but never did fish it. We put Crazy Ivan, my pet name for the I-Pilot on my boat, to the test today. I'll have to give him an A-. We caught 52 fish with 37 being nice keepers. Many over 12", but no TARP sized crappie today. Maybe they will all show up on Sunday. I wasn't planning on fishing this place during the tournament, but I might reconsider after this morning. I kept 10 and Dr Phil kept the rest of our 2 man limit. Released all the rest.

2 yellow bass and 1 spotted bass wanted to play a little bit, but we threw them back. I caught those on a new spot too. This spot will pay off in spades just as soon as I get a crappie bamboo hotel down there for the fish to stay overnight. We will even leave the light on for them. emoBigsmile While I was catching the yellow bass on this spot, Dr Phil showed out and caught a couple of crappie as well. Very promising spot. The Crappie Motel 6 will be under construction very shortly and will be ready for launch in a few days.

Wind today was out of the North and not too bad. NOAA said 5 mph, but it lies all the time. It was probably under 10 mph and did settle down a little bit near noon. We quit fishing at 12:30. Lots of fish to clean and chores to do. We caught most of our fish on bluffs today. Some on docks, and used Bobby Garland 1/16 oz jig heads with assorted colored plastics. More than one color worked today. emoBigsmile emoGeezer I must be losing it. I forgot to check water temp today. emoSorry

What action were you using to fish for your crappie? Jigging, spinning? I'm using a Fish Finder for the first time & am having trouble getting anything to bite. The fish are in 26ft of water with the fish at a depth of 23ft.
