I went out from HBSP around 10:15 or so and put the boat back on trailer at 2:00 pm. My intentions were to fish new spots that I had marked about 4 days ago while I was scouting. I scouted a lot more today too and marked a couple more big stumps that were holding fish.
I caught 10 fish total from new spots. Biggest crappie came from a stump near the Wolftever bridge. It is actually casting distance from the bank, but would be hard for someone to hit this spot unless they let the bait go straight down from a long cast to about 22 feet. I caught 5 non-keeper black crappie from WP 218. I caught 3 keeper White crappie from WP 215. I throwback black crappie from WP 217. All those waypoints have stumps on them. 216 and 219, 220 just mark the edge of a drop but do not have cover on them. Probably won't ever fish them again. I fished from 20 to 25 feet deep. All fish came on a 25 count or more with a 1/16 oz jig head with Bobby Garland Slab Slayers on them in new color, full moon. I did try other colors without a bite on them.
It was a perfect day to scout and fish. No wind or very little wind and the sunshine was warm after a chilly boat ride to begin with and no one watching what I was doing. I dressed for it though. emoBigsmile At each spot, before I would leave to go to another spot, I would throw a tube and a spoon to see if there were any bass present. I did get a couple of little pecks at one spot, but probably yellow bass or bluegills. Didn't hook up either hookset.
Water temp was 55.9 the only time that I checked it and that was about 11:00 AM and the gulls were flying all over the bay, but not diving into baitfish schools. I was prepared if the Stripers came up. I won't go fishing without a Striper lure on from now til spring. If it clouds up, I'm going to Tims Ford tomorrow. emoBigsmile emoGeezer
