Norman and I had planned on fishing together this week and today was the day. We both agreed that we had rather be crappie fishing, so we hit some new waters for both of us. Actually, I had fished some of this water one other time last year, and Norman fished up there one time a few days ago, so we were both just scouting more than anything else. However, the crappie did cooperate a little bit today. We landed 25 keepers out of 28 fish and they were really good quality fish. I don't know how they escaped the spawn and all the anglers that have been trying to catch them.

We found them resting under docks. We fished several different docks, but the key for us anyway, was the water depth had to be at least 15 feet or more for the dock to be productive. We tried docks that were more shallow, but we would only catch the Lone Ranger and perhaps Tonto on them. One fish here, one fish there. Deeper docks had more fish on them, but the bite was so subtle that a novice would probably never know that they had been bitten. The count today was 10 to 12 with a 32 oz jig. I used ringer stingers and an occasional stubby butt and Norman fished with bg shads mostly. We fished from about 8:30 til 12:30. Saw one other boat that was taking out as we were and they only caught 6 crappie. We didn't have a real good feeding period today while we were out. We are halfway between the new and full moon phases.

I really enjoyed our time today, Norman. Looking forward to another trip real soon. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Had another good time fishing with the Drumking. Always fun to try some new areas. We hit fish on the first location we fished and all were very good size, up to 13 3/4". DK got an early lead, but I made a strong comeback and it was neck and neck for awhile.

We decided to make one last stop for the morning and DK made a late surge with a 6 large keepers to my 1 small, sprint to the finish. Always an education fishing with the master. Thanks Dickey, I appreciate the ride and really enjoyed the company and the morning of fishing. All fish returned to the lake. Oh yeah, we saw a "giant" snake swimming across the river to a dock we were fishing. I flipped a jig at him and gave him a blip when it got to him, glad he didn't hookup, lol.

Regards, Norman

Looks like some real quality fish coming from upstream.
I would much rather catch fish like those than 100 dinks in a day.
