Hippy and I braved the little bit of rain that we had this morning with great expectations for a great crappie catch. Nada! The crappie sucked today. Oh, we found many fish over cover, on dropoffs, roadbeds, bamboo hotels, etc. but the fish were in a foul mood today or is that fowl mood? They were big chickens today and were reluctant to bite for us. We did manage to get Hippy 8 keepers for dinner, but we didn't catch near as many as we wanted to catch. Several short crappie and too many trashy green and white fish for our liking today. Dave did catch one lone Bluegill.

We threw about every color and Marti Gras and Blue/Chartreuse were the best colors. I didn't want to fish docks and maybe that is where all the stupid crappie are right now. emoBigsmile We fished with Panfish Assassins, Bobby Garland Slab Slayers, and Crappie Dawg lures. If I had had a perch colored hand grenade, I would have thrown it too. We had fun, and found some new places that are now safely waypointed on my Lowrance HDS 5 Lake Insight unit. I plan on a crappie killing next time out. emoUpsmile

Thanks for going with me today, Dave. Wish that you would smile more when I take your pic with the fish. emoPoke Oh, the water temp was 64.4 on my unit today. And we fished deep structure. Dr Phil will be glad to hear that we caught about 4 fish off the new bamboo hotel that we put out this past Friday. It is going to be a 5 star hotel. I added about 3 pics from our Riverpark trip on Tuesday. It was a sucky trip too. TVA spilling over the flood gates, so no Striper fishing for us. We only caught little fish and not worth reporting.

DK, that was my thoughts exactly for yesterday's trip. But it was still a great day out. Glad you at least got Hippy some for a good meal. BTY, where did the sauger come from?

Must have been a little fish day.I caught about a dozen small bass about that size this morning.I'd like to have a mess of those sauger,15in or larger,of course.

Dang DK, you usually kick my butt. I had a pretty good day today. I am going to write that on my calendar. ;) I am still catching crappie spawning. Not as many but they are there. Wood and rock in about 5 to 10 feet seems to be where you get the most productivity. I never saw you guys so we must have been in total different parts of the lake. I tried a couple docks and caught one small bass off of them. The docks on the river don't seem to be holding much yet. Better luck next time. emoThumbsup Jmax

I'm not into fishing docks right now, Jmax. It is easy to beat me anyway. I'm easy. emoBigsmile I really don't like to fish during the spawning cycle. Too crowded. I like to fish in areas of the lake that get very little attention. Maybe that is why there is little fish in those areas. emoUpsmile emoGeezer
