It has been a while since I last posted a fishing report, so I thought that I had better put one up. I fished alone today. Actually, scouted for 3 hours and fished for 1 hour. Tenncrappie was gracious enough to let me try a Lowrance HDS 5 Lake Insight unit with an option to buy since my old unit went kaput! If I can get it to do what I want it to do, then I'll probably purchase it. I didn't get a manual with it and it is different from my Lowrance HDS 5 unit that went bad. I haven't figured out yet how to get it to read my Hotmaps chip. Don't know how to save waypoints to the chip either. The Lake Insight has some features that I like, but it doesn't have the color palette that I prefer, although I guess that I could get used to another color.

I was looking for several of the crappie hotels that we put out this year. I was able to find some and put a WP on them, but others I will need to get the WPs from Tenncrappie. I did mark some new stuff that looks promising, but didn't fish them. Finally at 11:00 AM, I had decided to fish one of my hotels in Waconda Bay before I quit for the day. This one was easy to find. I caught 6 crappie, mostly keeper white crappie, but did have one black shorty there and missed two other strikes. I moved to another hotel and caught a bluegill off it. Then to the final one that I would check before putting the boat on the trailer and didn't catch any crappie on it, but did catch a nice sized yellow bass. Then the water erupted all around me about 4 or 5 times. It was white bass schooling and I caught 2 on crappie jigs before they quit. They came up about 3 times out of my reach. They were about 1 lb fish.

I caught my crappie on Screamer BG Shads on a 12 count in 20 feet of water using a 1/16 oz jighead. The white bass came on BG Ghost with a tail light. That's it for today. I'm going to a high school football game tonight at McMinn Central. They are undefeated and face a strong Meigs County team tonight. My grand daughter plays in the Meigs band.

Earlier in the week, Bassert and I fished and next day, Lovetofish and I had a go at the crappie. It was slow both days for us. Ricky and I did catch a few on a bluff. I had 4 in a row before missing one. 3 keeper crappie, 1 keeper spot, and a couple of short crappie came from that bluff spot. That all occurred in a 10 minute time frame. Fun while it lasted. But it was mostly just riding around trying to get these deep crappie to bite. Without much success, I would like to add.

I am including the only pic that I took today of a white crappie. I caught 2 more that were bigger than the one shown, but I didn't take a pic of them.

Thought I seen you out there today. Just wasn't close enough to verify and throw my hand up. No report from me today unless a 5 inch bass is worthy of a report.lol Think the crappie are ignoring me..... Anyways. .. Glad to see your report today. Gives me hope.

Glad you were able to find a few that were willing to bite. Good meeting Mrs. DK tonight at Central.

Thanks for the report King of all the Drum! Those white bass have done that to me a few times here lately too. Two days ago they did it again but this time they were all largemouth. Those are some of the funnest days when they start busting!

That's tough luck on your HDS 5 unit going out, I know how much effort you had put into loading your locations on it. Thought that I would report backthat the nite-bite is alive and well...went with epaul again last night and caught another good creel of keeper crappies...I still keep a 20 fish limit 0f 11-13inch specs with the broad backs on 'em.The main feeding period is 10:30-12:30pm and they bite better on a cloudy night rather than starlit...catching nice sized ones on dark color BG's in 18-24fow on and near vertical structures. I have installed a pair of 8ft uv-black light strips on the Maddog Triton and have been line watching to hook-up the bigguns!!

Yes Sir! I have definitely developed an "itch for the twitch"!! So much that I have perfected a black light system on my boat where I installed and use a dimmercontrol knob to regulate the amount of light I'm casting into to catch fish without spooking them...sometimes the line just goes slack or curls upward, those are the better fish I had been late onsetting the hook and they were spitting my lure out...my hook-to miss-ratio has improved 200% and these are usually the slab sized fish that were eluding my live well...not anymore!! The Maddog is Back Ladies and Gents!! emoToast </p>
