It has been a while since I last posted a fishing report, so I thought that I had better put one up. I fished alone today. Actually, scouted for 3 hours and fished for 1 hour. Tenncrappie was gracious enough to let me try a Lowrance HDS 5 Lake Insight unit with an option to buy since my old unit went kaput! If I can get it to do what I want it to do, then I'll probably purchase it. I didn't get a manual with it and it is different from my Lowrance HDS 5 unit that went bad. I haven't figured out yet how to get it to read my Hotmaps chip. Don't know how to save waypoints to the chip either. The Lake Insight has some features that I like, but it doesn't have the color palette that I prefer, although I guess that I could get used to another color.
I was looking for several of the crappie hotels that we put out this year. I was able to find some and put a WP on them, but others I will need to get the WPs from Tenncrappie. I did mark some new stuff that looks promising, but didn't fish them. Finally at 11:00 AM, I had decided to fish one of my hotels in Waconda Bay before I quit for the day. This one was easy to find. I caught 6 crappie, mostly keeper white crappie, but did have one black shorty there and missed two other strikes. I moved to another hotel and caught a bluegill off it. Then to the final one that I would check before putting the boat on the trailer and didn't catch any crappie on it, but did catch a nice sized yellow bass. Then the water erupted all around me about 4 or 5 times. It was white bass schooling and I caught 2 on crappie jigs before they quit. They came up about 3 times out of my reach. They were about 1 lb fish.
I caught my crappie on Screamer BG Shads on a 12 count in 20 feet of water using a 1/16 oz jighead. The white bass came on BG Ghost with a tail light. That's it for today. I'm going to a high school football game tonight at McMinn Central. They are undefeated and face a strong Meigs County team tonight. My grand daughter plays in the Meigs band.
Earlier in the week, Bassert and I fished and next day, Lovetofish and I had a go at the crappie. It was slow both days for us. Ricky and I did catch a few on a bluff. I had 4 in a row before missing one. 3 keeper crappie, 1 keeper spot, and a couple of short crappie came from that bluff spot. That all occurred in a 10 minute time frame. Fun while it lasted. But it was mostly just riding around trying to get these deep crappie to bite. Without much success, I would like to add.
I am including the only pic that I took today of a white crappie. I caught 2 more that were bigger than the one shown, but I didn't take a pic of them.
