Dr Phillip Gawthrop and I planned a crappie fishing trip today and it turned out to be a fun morning/early afternoon trip. We saw lots of fish on the graph nearly every place that we went to today, but could only get 1 or 2 to bite at each stop. I guess that there were a couple of dumb fish in every school. Not all can be head of the class, I suppose. emoBigsmile
We caught fish just off docks, off vertical structure, and on some off shore structure. Most fish that we caught were 15 feet or deeper. No shallow fish would bite for us. We kept 8 fish for Phil for dinner. He also caught a nice fat Spotted bass which is going in Drumking's frying pan tonight. emoHungry I also caught one of my pets or namesakes. 8.75 lb Drum on 4 lb test Viscious Hi-Vis yellow line. It pulled drag several times before coming to the net. He posed for the pic just fine, so I wished him a Merry Christmas and sent him back home to his kids. emoBigsmile
We used 1/16 mostly, and 1/24 oz jigs with Lights Out and Full Moon, Bobby Garland 2" Baby Shads and I did catch one nice crappie on a Love Bug Minnow Mind'r on a 1/16 oz jig. The Drum came on a Lights Out 2" Baby Shad from Bobby Garland. If you are having trouble finding BG plastics around town, why not buy them from Betty at Crappietown.com. She is a wonderful lady and gets orders out on the same day as ordered most of the time. (She also owns the company that produces the plastics). She lost her husband early this year to a stroke and this will be the first Christmas without him.
Hope you enjoyed the post as much as I enjoyed riding Phil around the lake today. We will do it again really soon, Phil. emoBigsmile emoGeezer
