I have been dog and cat sitting for my daughter, s-i-l, and grandkids while they were at the beach, so I was out of town and ready for a good crappie day. It was one of those days that you like to get every once in a while. Dr Phil went with me this morning as he needed some fish for a FF that he is having next weekend. All who have 4 wheelers are invited, but you will have to travel for quite a ways to attend the fry. emoBigsmile
We brought home 28 keepers, caught about 15 to 20 more that were 10 or slightly over and about 20 to 30 throwback crappie. Phil caught 2 TARPs today. One white and one black. All fish caught on Bobby Garland plastics and on 1/16 oz jig heads. You just can't beat BG lures. Of course, I am bias, or so Candi tells me all the time. emoBigsmile
Most days you can catch them on just about any color, but not today for us. Early on and until about 10:30, all the fish would touch for us was silverfish Minnow Minders. I told Phil to keep his own all the time while I experimented. Naturally, he smoked me badly today. I finally gave us and tied one on and began to catch crappie.
About 10:30 or so, I went to Electric Chicken and the fish ate it up. They would still hit the Silverfish a little bit, but they were chowing down on the Chicken. Everybody loves chicken. emoBigsmile All our fish came on open water structure. Deep brushpiles and stumps. But most fish were at the 12 to 14 foot range. We did catch a couple that were shallow, but most stayed in the 10 to 15 foot range. That is where we saw them on the graph and where we stayed in our presentation.
I found a new, soon to be favorite, spot today. Phil and I had several doubles on this spot. A couple of trashy green fish got in the way too. I threw them back. Not worthy to ride in a G3. I have a lot of water in this area to check out. I need to go by myself or with the Drumqueen. She won't tell anyone where it is located. emoUpsmile
Phil needs 10 more fish to have enough for his fry. Hopefully, we can get those Sunday AM. Time for a nap. emoHungry emoBigsmile emoGeezer
