Me and old self went out for a couple of hours of fishing late this PM. I was hoping to see some striper action on top, but nada. North wind initially, but it finally settled down a little bit. So, I crappie fished a deep drop. Caught 2 yellow bass to begin with, then lost a heavy crappie about 1/2 way to the boat. Opened the gap on my hook a tad more and didn't have another pull off.

I ran to a bluff and fished about 20 minutes and landed 3 very nice crappie. I thought that the 2nd one was a TARP, but when measuring him correctly, (mouth closed, butted up against the ruler), it was only about 13 7/8 inches long. emoBang I decided to make another run around Harrison Bay and while approaching Wolftever ramp, the motor on my boat gave up the ghost. emoBang emoBang Tried to call ustowboats, but only got their answering machine. emoBang emoBang emoBang So I did the next best thing and called Wanda and asked her to take the car, drive to the Tyner lane ramp, pick up the truck and trailer, drive to Wolftever ramp and meet me there. I went on in by trolling motor.

When I was about 1/2 to the WT ramp, Wanda called me and said that she couldn't find her keys. She thought that she left them on the back on the boat when she came in from shopping. I looked on the back of the boat, and they weren't there. emoBang emoBang emoBang emoBang So, I continued on to the ramp after telling her to go look again for her keys. I stopped at the bridge to give away the 4 keeper crappie that I had. Made one guy very happy. Then continued on to the ramp by trolling motor. About halfway to the ramp, I get another call from Wanda telling me that she found her keys on my computer desk. Whew! What the heck were they doing on my computer desk. She don't even know how to turn that thang on. emoScratch

Oh, when the motor died, it made a terrible grinding sound and quit running. It wouldn't crank or make a sound when I tried to crank it. emoBang But when we put the boat in the basement at home, I pulled the cowling off, didn't see anything out of place or through the block. I told Wanda that it wouldn't make a sound. I moved to the switch and turned it on just to show her and the durn thing nearly started up. emoBang emoBang Now, what the heck is going on with this motor?

Anyhow, when I went to take pics of the crappie on the lake, my batteries were exhausted in my camera and I'm nearly exhausted telling this tale. So, I'm checking out of this report before something else happens. Wanda is calling me to dinner. emoHungry

Good night! What a day Dickie emoConfused Hope it's a simple problem with the motor, fuel or ignition-nothing internal.
Yeah, when Danny and I needed help from Boat US we were right across from the marina they are based ought of on Gunny and it took a whike, but their guy bent over backwards to take care of us! Close to the winter holidays might be a little tougher.

DK, so sorry you had this much trouble, did you call Shane and or Stacy cell numbers or the 1800 number?

I called the Stacy number. I don't have the Shane number.

Sorry to hear about your problems. After all that, you need to have a nice and relaxed Thanksgiving Day and a great dinner with familly! Hope you are out on the water again soon chasing crappie and your pets!

I'm thinking T-Roy might be right since it started up when you got home. A loose connection in the kill switch wiring from it to the motor might be a good place to start. Vibration from the road trip home might have jiggled it enough to make up a bad or loose connection. Of course with an outboard, anything is possible.

How is the Tyner Lane boat ramp? I've never put in there but I don't live far from it. It's also in the area I fish a lot of the time. Surely eventually TVA will drop the water to winter pool, how is it to put in then? some ramps suck in winter.

I have given this some considerable thought........ I think the next time you have the boat out........ I would unhook the motor and drop it in about 30 ft of water and bury the darn thing..... you know I love ya and you should not have this aggrivation to deal with from now on..... FA
