Unbeknownst to me, Dr Phillip challenged Elbo and WTK to a crappie duel this AM. I told Phil that I wasn't fishing 12 hours. emoUpsmile So we set out at first light and ran to one of my favorite docks. I knew better than to get into the Kid's territory cause he knows where every crappie lives in that area.

The first dock that we came to, we hit the mother lode right off the bat. I landed my first slab (13+ inches) just after I skipped the lure under the dock and before I could get the bail flipped on my reel, the fish had nailed the jig. I looked at my watch when I landed this fish and it was 7:00 AM on the dot. By 7:15, Dr Phil and I had 19 keepers in the boat and several throwbacks. This is the first time that I have ever had crappie hit at a 0 count. After we picked off about a dozen, we had to let the jig sink about 2 or 3 seconds before the fish would nail the jigs. They hit every color that we threw. I started off with a 1/32 oz red/chartreuse lure and Phil was fishing an Albino shad color with a tail light. We switched to ghastly minnows, outlaw specials, pearl with tail light and the fish hit just about every color that we threw. Great morning.

We got a call from Elbo and he told us that they were run off the intake by an armed guard. They weren't letting any fishermen use that area today. Doc told them that they shouldn't have tied that diaper to their heads. emoBigsmile

We probably lost the challenge, but last time we heard, they had 17 keepers to our 31 and then we quit while we were ahead. We had 15 throwback crappie to go along with the 31 keepers. 3 of the keepers did not measure up to our standards and didn't get to ride the Tyner Lane shuttle. I hooked a nice smallmouth that was in the 2.5 to 3.0 range. Had it on for 30 seconds or more and then it went air borne and threw the jig back in our faces. Nice one. A pretty good yellow bass rounded out our catch this AM. We quit fishing before 10:00 AM.

Going to my daughter's this afternoon for our Labor Day cookout. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Oh, I almost forgot. For those of you who don't put much stock in the solunar tables, the tables gave a 6:37 to 7:37 range for the minor feeding period. We had 19 keepers by 7:15 and only had 12 more by 9:50 when we quit fishing. The major is just after noon today and it should be red hot fishing.

Richard, you need to let me take you crappie fishing before the rush is over and before you go slogging in the mud for those wild ducks. emoGeezer

Drumking,

Good looking catch. Where do you get your solunar table information? Is it a magazine or a website? Thanks.....Jim

A crappie challenge grudge match, love it. You have ruined Dr. Phil, he must think you should kill them every trip. (As you seem to do!) Great report and really nice fish, I may have to break out the crappie rods soon. Thanks for the report.

Regards, Labman
