Drumking weekly report:

Wanda and I started off the week by driving to Gulf Shores, Alabama on Sunday for about 3 days of vacation with our kids and grand kids and great grand kids from Louisiana. It was a much needed vacation for us. We got back home Wednesday afternoon.

Oct 03, 2013:

I rested Thursday most of the day, but at breakfast I told Wanda that I wished that Polo would call me and ask me to fish for a couple of hours late in the day, and Polo did just that. It was a much needed crappie fix and although the biting was very slow for late evening, we did manage to catch 10 nice keepers on roadbeds. We hit about 4 different roadbeds and fished them for a few minutes each until it became too dark to see. Thanks, Mark, for taking me fishing with you and Freida.

Oct 04, 2013:

Today was the annual 3 Amigo fishing tournament out of my boat at the Riverpark. We had so much fun. Fat Albert got on me right away about being fat, so I had to leave the fat jokes alone. emoBigsmile And, Albert got the day off just right for him by catching his limit on the very first cast as MadBomber and I were getting our rods and lures ready to cast. First cast, Al hooked and fought a big fish til it finally gave up. It was a Gar that was about 3' long and well over 5 lbs.

I got the fish in the net, got the hook out for FA with my pliers, and was reaching for my camera and he, because he wasn't going to lip this toothy critter, said dump him out in the boat. So I did. The fish was so mad at Al that he wounded him on both legs. Once at the right knee, and the 2nd time on the left foot, just where Al's pink crocs would not protect him. emoBang emoHoppingmad

So, before I could even make my first cast of the day, I had to get my first aid kit out and play doctor. Then, MadBomber and I started catching bass. It was a nip and tuck contest from beginning to end. We were fishing in MadBomber's element, so he had a big advantage. I'll let him tell this part of the story. FA just sat there and whined about his injuries, but they did give him a good excuse for not catching another fish for at least 4 hours. emoLaugh

When the bleeding and pain finally stopped, Fat Albert put on a white grub and started catching fish at an alarming rate. A bluegill, a small spot, a small largemouth and hooked up the biggest fish of the day, but it didn't count as he fought it back to the boat, and it never would come up and finally surged under the boat and broke his line. MB and I both agreed, since we didn't see the fish, that it didn't count in our total and it had to be a Drum. emoUpsmile

I never could quite close the gap on MB. Fishing riprap is a big edge for him and I would close the gap to 1 fish and then he would promptly catch another one to go 2 up. All our fish were bass. Fat Albert is the one who fooled with the trashy fish today. Final totals for the 3 Amigo Annual Tournament:

MadBomber 15 bass
Drumking 13 bass
Fat Albert 5 bass, 1 Gar, 1 Bluegill

Can't wait until the next time we are together in the boat. Great fellowship and many laughs. Albert could have caught more fish if he would just leave the telephone alone. He knows more people than those who live in Chattanooga. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

BTW, MB has most of the pics. I only took a few.

Hahaha...looks like a really good time.

Good time doesn't even begin to describe it. First off, FA and I both really enjoyedfishing out of the G3.Sweet Ride.

Today, I had to learn how to "Front-End" from the back seat. I was successful. BTW anytime you catch more numbers than the Mighty Drum King, You can be proud. Of course, usually if you can catch 2 fish, you can beat Al.

I caught most of mine on a brown back 200 Bandit with a couple on a Berkely Beast and oneon a SB.

Al was way behind until he called home and asked his wife to pray for him! He caught 6 pretty quick right after that. Prayer Works!! Also, Al's wife bought him some EricM special shirts but that wasn't enough. She still had to PRAY!!!

enjoy the pics, especially the first one.

How do u go to Gulf Shores and not fish, DK?

We were too busy. It was the first time to the beach for us since Hurricane Opel tore up Panama City Beach several years ago. Mrs Drumking had to pick up shells. emoBigsmile

Next trip though, I will try to work in an inshore trip. emoGeezer

This whole story is a Croc. I would have loved to have seen that gar thrashing around in the boat.

Very comical, enjoyable read DK...If all FA got was a nip by that gar he should consider himself a lucky man---all thosecrankbaits with treble hooks buzzing him being the middlemanwould make me a nervous wreck! That's three very skilled fishermen to pull off a bass fishing RP trip and not require protective eyewear or helmets! LOL

Shoot, it was DK and me that was in danger. I can cast over my left or right shoulder depending on the situation. My Dad taught me very early that it was bad form to cast toward my partner's side. Luckily for DK and me, Al used jigs all day. It was DK who caved and switched to a crankbait. emoLaugh

I wonder when FA is going to chime in.

Wow, what a great group to have out in the boat! Fantastic fishing for FA! 5 times his usual limit on bass, great job FA!

I was hoping you would get new UT orange crocs at gulf shore this year! I got the thinking only a real man would wear pink crocs with a sock tan line, I admire FA for that! emoWorthy

Well, thar we wuz....... sorry to be so late with my comments but I wuz injured and it has taken me this long to recover.... not really.. just been way too busy... for example yesterday up at 6am went to church for our monthly Man Cave get-together for the men at Silverdale Baptist, then umpired two ball games at Boyd, rushed home to clean up and go meet some friends to fellowship and have dinner..Missed the whole Vol's game. shucks, I'm too old for this life style...Oh yeah, Friday after fishing with my two best so call friends I had a ball game......now, to my thoughts concerning this fishing trip.... we have big much fun when we get together on this trip.... that's what it is all about.... I think I am going to surrrr--vive the GAR attack. Crap, I sure must have made the dude mad cause he got me twice... no pity from friends....they just got busy and beat the tar out of me on numbers.... I must be the greatest fisherman that ever was to be able to fish between two greats in one boat....we are pretty good to say the least.....just ask us...we don't even come close to hitting each other with the baits while casting...never have. If someone would have a movie camera and film this we could make a million bucks.... WAY TO MUCH FUN.... the big fish that I had on was a nice'un wish we could have seen it.... setting the drag was not on my mind at the time.... I think the reel just screwed up, I'm too good not to notice some little something like that...Drum??? ain't no way. I think it was a big smallie and that's my story and I'm sticking to it... the pink crocs ??? well, that smart-aleck MB gave them to me a couple of years back as a joke and I'm good in my man hood I'll wear um just to look good.... man, what a wonderful time to be with close friends ...love you guys... If you find any orange crocs up here, you better buy them cause the lady at the Crocs store in the Tangers mall said that they quit making the orange and red crocs. That may be a croc, but that's what she said. So, I opted for white. They should be much cooler than the dark colored crocs that I now possess. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Always to read about the 3 amigos!!

Good times with the 3 amigos. 3 days at GS ain't long enough for a vacation, especially considering the large amount of time spent with many family members (JK) and w/o fishing, LOL.
