Candi called me or texted me rather, this morning and asked if I wanted to fish at the Riverpark around 11:00. Of course, I said yes. So, she was over to our house before 11:00 and we loaded up the boat and headed to KFC for a bucket of chicken. After that, on to the Riverpark ramp.
What a great mid day, early afternoon trip that we had. We ran downriver and fished for spots first. Caught a couple, then drifted to the red breast spawning area. We had to check this out, but I didn't think that we would find them there with the water temp being 63.7 and I was right. No red breast yet. Back to spotted bass fishing. We drifted on down the bank to downtown Chattanooga. We were catching Spots occasionally and a Google Eye every once in a while. Then something dramatic happened.
Throwing a 2.5 inch pearl swimming minnow with a chartreuse dyed tail, I hooked into a great Largemouth Bass. It turned out to be my 9th different TARP species. Need one more for a master angler 3 award from TWRA. The fish was exactly 22 inches long, and weighed 6 lbs 4 ozs. Using a 6.0' medium rod with 6 lb test fluorocarbon line, I got her to the net after a minute or so. What a great net job that Candi did because as she was dipping the fish, the jig came flying out of its mouth. A couple of seconds earlier and I would have just had a big fish tale. After pics and measurements, we released the big girl to get on with her spawning duties.
I took home 11 spots, (miscounted, thought that we only had 10), 5 Google eyes, and 2 red breast sunfish (9.0 and 9.5 inches long). Great day of fishing with you Candi. Loved every minute of it. We saw Rogne Brown and friend at the ramp when we were starting this AM.
Candi will post all the pics. emoBigsmile emoGeezer
