We didn't have the most favorable weather report when we woke up this morning, but Brian, Rick, and I had plans to fish Tims Ford and see if we could get the skunk off the Kid from this lake. We decided to go anyway, despite the rain in the forecast, and it turned out that the rain held off mostly. Just some brief drizzle a couple of times, but none of us got wet. The wind wasn't too bad either and nearly laid down completely after the drizzle blew through.
Brian and I left Chattanooga at 8:00 AM and drove the 1 hr and 30 minute drive to Rick's house and when we arrived, Rick had the boat hooked up and ready to go. Short introductions and then we were off. We started off scanning docks for crappie. The first place that we wanted to scan had a boat very near it, so we left it for later on in the day. It was a dock that we had caught some big crappie on this past Tuesday.
Then to the next dock and we finally got to fish it. The Kid got the skunk off the boat and himself on the very first cast of the morning. Biggest fish of the day. 15.5 inch black nose Crappie that weighed 2.4 lbs. Hog of a fish and it gave Brian a fit before coming to net. But the fishing was very slow nearly all day. I knew from looking at the Solunar Tables that the best bite would be in the afternoon and sure enough, we only caught a fish or two from here and there until we got into the feeding period and then had a spree on a couple of docks to finish with 25 crappie, including 3 TARPs. Brian had two (15.5 and 14.125) and I had the other (15.25 and 2.1 lbs). We caught several nice healthy 12.5 to 13.75 inch fish. Very few small keepers today. All fish released to grow even bigger.
We all donated enough jigs to the metal framework on these docks to stock a small tackle store. We got to keep Bobby Garland plastics going. When the bite picked up, we all got so excited that we couldn't hit the small targets that we had to shoot under and so we left many hanging on the framework. We did clean off the jigs and line before we left. We enjoyed running into Mallardecho out on the lake. He was breaking in a new engine on his boat and was doing more running than fishing. Thanks for the caps, Bill. Next time we will be fishing with you.
Thanks for going with me today, Brian and Rick, thank you for being such a great guide. We really had fun today and were very appreciative of your efforts. Letting us fish while holding the boat in position for easier casting. You went overboard on the guiding service today. emoBigsmile emoGeezer
