Bent Rod (Rick Stacey) called me yesterday afternoon and wanted me to come fish with him when I could. I had a cancellation about 30 minutes after he called, so I called him right back and made a date for our trip today. I wanted to catch a big Black Nose Crappie really bad. I got my wish. emoDance
Weatherman missed it badly again. He called for a high of 45 degrees in Winchester. It was 39 degrees when I arrived at 11:00 AM. We went to Devil Step, launched and ran to one of our favorite spots only to find a lone angler fishing this spot. We saw him catch a couple. There wasn't any fish in that cove on any other docks or in brush. emoBang Froze our fannies off making that run too. emoBang emoBang Then we moved to another part of the lake and scanned several docks. We found some fish, but someone was standing on the best dock and we saw him catch a couple as well while we went fishless.
Our next move was a good one. Still another area of the lake and scanning docks revealed some fish in a couple more docks. I was the lucky one today. Rick was a great net man, but did get the skunk off him with a short crappie. I caught 3 big black nose crappie and 3 black crappie. The best black nose was 15" and 2 lbs. The best black was almost a TARP. It lacked about 1/16" being 14" long. It looked like a monster in that clear water over there. I had 2 short crappie on our last stop before calling it a day.
Thanks for taking me fishing today, Rick. You know how much I love catching those big black nose crappie and you did a wonderful job of guiding and keeping me in ideal position. You can come over here sometime and I will return the favor. I really enjoyed the fellowship too. Merry Christmas to you and Faye. See you again soon.
