In the previous boat I had, there was an oil reservoir that sent the oil to the gas/engine for me. While it was nice, it always worried me. In the boat I have currently, I will have to mix the gas/oil. What is the easiest way to do this? I've got a 12 gallon tank. Would pre-mixing it in a portable gas can be the best? Do you fill up your tank, then figure out how much oil to put in it? Sorry if this sounds ridiculous ;)

<font size="2">I had my pump removed on my efi motor because if it goes down while the engine is operating it will cook the motor before you can shut it down. I premix all of my fuel, because buying in bulk is cheaper, and it takes a lot of guess work out.. I use a gas dock with a 28 gal. capacity and wheel it where I need it. </font></p>

<font size="2">Walmart has a plastic container that shows what level to fill to for exact mixtures<font color="#0000ff">" SeaSense, for two cycle mixtures" </font><font color="#000000">All that you need now is the fuel ratio for your motor(consult owners manual if possible)and you need to be sure, too rich and you will foul plugs to lean and it will be a new motor. Most older outboards mix at 50:1, I have seen some though that mix at 100:1(Evinrudes).</font></font></p>

<font size="2">Last step, use a good oil, Castrol, Pensoil, Klotz, or Amsoil, this is what lubricates the top of your piston, don't scrimp.</font></p>

BMIU, I have a very similar set-up to you, only with a '89 Johnson 110. Carl gave you some great advice. Call your local Evinrude shop and ask them what the ratio is. I keep four 6 gallon (really 6.5 gallon) tanks at the house. I fill up when prices are low and premix the fuel. Then I bought a large funnel at Ace and fill up after every trip - fuel sensor broken. No problems and no worries about a broken oiler. BTW, what size prop does that Alli/Evinrude use?

Thor has it, 2.5oz per gallon. Have to mention he did a damn fine job of putting a new 200efi block on my sled for me, and just like Carl I am now mixing to get away from the possibility of the oil injection system failing and frying another one. I have a 40 gallon tank and always fill in 6 gallon increments, 15oz of oil (just below 2 cups) per 6 gallons of gas.

Just make sure you do a power tune if you run more oil than your RPM's require. The addition oil is more carbon building up on your rings and grooves and will eventually cause a power loss then a rebuild to clean out the coked ring grooves. If you use power tune and clean the carbon once a year it will be ok. This will keep the coking to a minimum. I have built alot of engines that the customers thought more is better and it cost them money. Just my 2 cents worth!

for like 2 bucks at wal mart you can buy a jug to pour your oil in thats has all the mixes on it also for 50 to 1 mix the small bottles you buy will do 6 gallons so i usually buy one of those and put either 6 or 12 gallons of gas in and a full bottle or 2 of oil

I would say your engine uses 50/1 oil mixture. Pour one 32 oz bottle of marine grade 2 stroke oil in tank. Fill with 12 gallons no-ethanol gas (moore rd/ Ringgold rd), 1st station on left off 153 on 58. DRive to lake and fish your heart out. If you don't know if there is room for 12 gallons start with half the bottle of oil.
