From what I have read to get good images like this you will need to invest in a high power tranducer. 4000 watts seems to be the high end standard. 2400 watts is the middle of the road and cheaper units have 1500 watts (like Eagles). Color also helps a lot. I have a 4000 watt color Lowerance and I see images similar to this. This fall the spots would school under the boat, I mean about 5 feet under the boat and they would show up as yellow/orange blobs on the screen.

For everyone looking to purchase a depth finder, spend a little more money, get color and 4000 watts. You will be glad you did.

The only down side to the 4000 watts ( read this in Bass master magazine), is that in shallower water it can actually scare the fish, where a lower wattage like a 2500 wouldn't. I guess they can hear the sonar? Any way, that was a great video!!! I need to know stuff like that!

I don't buy the fish scaring story. Again we have spots school under the boat and under the trolling motor where the transducer is mounted. Maybe spots are just stupid but they are not scared of boats or sonor. Also if you have ever been bowfishing you will know that bass are not scared of boats. Even with generators going with bright lights the bass just sit there looking at the boat. As a matter of fact bass are probably the easiest fish to shoot if they were legal. Even if it did scare the fish in shallow water, how many bass anglers fish vertically under the boat in shallow water? The only fish I can see being sonor sensitive would be cats and I got my person best last year of 50 lbs in 25 feet of water with two depth finders running. Not saying BM is wrong, just in my experience I have never seen a situtation where the boat or sonor has spooked fish.

That is a great video!!! I wonder if I could buy a higher wattage transducer for my eagle 480??? I think mine is 1500 watts peak to peak. Also It would be great if someone would do a fishfinder study like we do map studies!! I would really like to learn more about how to spot fish on my electronics.

The power comes from the unit WLG.....the transducer is the speaker and receiver. If you put your fingertip on the bottom of the transducer...you can feel the outgoing signal and if you try hard enough you can almost hear it when out of the water. I`ve never tried it but I bet you can almost tell the difference between a 1500 and 3000+ unit.
The power really pays off in really really deep water especially when coupled with a dual frequency unit.

Yea, I agreeSpots are like hungry dumb dogs swimming to the boat with thier tongue hanging out , wagging thier tail thinking they can get a bite to eat.

So yea...they are stupid. LOL!

Good Vid. We should get one of our electronic gurus here to do one!
