Me and a buddy went bank fishing this morn on the Elk River just below Woods Resivor Dam. Caught a bunch of bass, a few crappie, a 10lb & a 5lb striper. Bass on plastic craws, lizards, and bomber long a's. Crappie hit swimmin grubs, stripers on long a's. Here are the two biggest smallies and largemouths.

Gotta shrink the files, I'll post them later.

Nice looking fish. How wide and deep is the elk river can you fish it from a boat or how do most people fish this river....From the bank or boat? I have fished Woods and Tims Resevoir but never the river or tail waters of the dams. Do you just walk along the banks? Is the river clear or muddy hard rock bottom. Etc. Your post has me curious. Do you have to go onto private property or is it public. Nice report!

Hey Clint I know that area very well and cant figure out where those pics. were taken. Unless it was up in the parking lot over looking Woods lake. I'm just curious, I know the fishing has been hot below the dam lately. Good looking Smallies and Largemouths. Bigfishguide, the water is coming up in the upper reaches of Tims Ford, but you cant get a big boat up there right now and honestly the only boats I ever have seen just below that dam were very small ones that were slid in along the bank. There is an area called Beth Page Bridge, I have had a big boat to there, thats a couple miles from the dam. Below Woods dam the river is about 30 yards wide and its pretty shallow in alot of places. Great place for bank fishing though, the Stripers have been taking top water baits in the last week or so I am told by friends. The crappie have been doing good there also, I caught 9-10 good slabs during my lunch break one day last week, catch1maybe had them for supper that night. There are lots of good places that you can bank fish for several miles below the dam that are not on private property. Maybe Clint will add to this info. for us, didnt mean to answer for him.

Nice fish clint! Thanks for the report. Those are some nice fish and the smallies are really good. Would love to catch a few like that. emoThumbsup

You are correct, that was taken in the parking lot. I dont know the river very well at all, prolly best you answer the questions. That was my first trip there and I work at AEDC! We were never any farther than about 400yds from the dam. The river was UP, and the were flowing one flood gate. I am definately going back. Here is a pic from my camera phone right after I pulled one of the smallies from the water.

I like fishing there myself. Did you say how you caught the stripers? Great looking fish. If you walk right behind where those pics. were taken you will find alot of brush on the lake about 20 yards out, try throwing a minnow on a bobber out there, lots of Crappie right there. Theres a place a few miles down river called the Burton Hole, thats where I have been catching Crappie. You work at AEDC, ask somebody over there about the upper end of Rollins Creek, just a couple miles from where you work, great Crappie and Smallmoutn there.
