This might be a crazy question but is it ok to mix different outboard engine oils? I end up having to buy a different brand than I usely do.

Thanks, just a little gun shy of just throwing something else in there.

I run walmart oil in a 2008 250XS. I have ran klotz, mercury, amsoil, pennzoil... Can't tell a bit of difference between any of them.

I would think the oils are all virtually identical as long as they are rated the same, i.e., TCW3, NMMA Certified, etc. I too use the Walmart 2 cycle, but I'm having a hard time finding it lately.

The Wal-Mart brand works as well as the $26.00 gallon of Pennsoil I had to grab one time! I really don't think it matters as long as you get lubrication.

One thing to remember is fuel itself is a lubricant. At 50:1 it is 2% oil to fuel. I had a guy who I just rebuilt his 2.5 200 mercury because of no oil in the fuel. He has had the boat for 3 years with the oil injection disabled and didn't know it. He drove it at 4-5K all the time with no problem. When his son drove it he turned it 6K+ and it damaged #4. It was the only one hurt. I run the wal-mart oil in many highly modified engines with no problem. The really highly modified engine of my own that I have on Wes' bullet is runing on wal-mart oil. I agree with hook1.
