Hey guys I thought it would be great to have this since this very well may be the last one in the park. I know the first hunt starts today so Good Luck to all you guys that made the draw!

And good luck to any bunny hugging protesters that think they're cute trying to interrupt someone legally hunting. Any one let us know if you see bambi while your there and thumper and eyeore and [piglet and pooh too.

I was there today and there were no protesters. Around 50 hunters showed up. They had checked in 6 when I left around noon.

I got there just before 6, I was assuming that Id have to wait in line since they say hunt starts 1 hour before legal time, but was WRONG. They opened gates at 5AM. When I got to my area I was shocked to see every one of the trucks in the place stacked around my desired location. :(

I guess I should have scouted other roads, etc.

I did see one nice 8 point, but too far to shoot, and I didnt have a slick-head yet anyways.
I slept in this AM, and am heading back this afternoon.

Wait a second. I thought these hunts were going to completely eradicate the whitetail deer population of the park!?!?
I was sure there were more than 6 deer in the park, but I must have been wrong :)

I bet that tree-hugging, bambi loving lady attorney...snuck in there and told all those deer to hide! emoPoke

I hunted most all day Monday, and a couple hours last evening and saw about 25 deer. I killed a tnder button-head, and missed two others. Glad they weren't bucks or I'd be mad LOLThe place is loaded, its just really tough to figure out where to hunt, every square inch of it is capable of having a deer walk by at some point. Acorns dropped non-stop all day. I wish there was more open areas to hunt the edges of, but oh well, I wont have to worry for several more years since I got this draw.

Hunted both days. Talking about tough hunting. I thought these deer were suppose to be tame. Jumped 3 up walking in. Never seen another deer monday morning. Moved stand and hunted rest of day. Seen 12 deer Monday evening. All bucks... Seen a nice 8 pter at 10 yards. Tuesday morning, I had a nice 6 pter and a doe come in. I shot the doe. I came down to look for blood. Decent blood trail and then the rain started. Heavy downpour made it tough. lost blood trail. Looked for her til around 230. climbed back in stand, til dark. Seen 9 deer, that evening. The 6 pter came in around 4 and stayed til 6 oclock. Could have shot him 7 or 8 different times. I really hated that I didn't find the doe. I tried like crazy. The rain really made it tough. Park Ranger told me as I was leaving, That there was only 2 deer checked in, all day. That was around 730. Not sure how many were checked after I left. Wasnt many killed Monday either. If there is a next time. I have decided to get a mountain bike and wear spandex, and just ride the roads and look for all the tame deer.

I can't remember the complete details... but I do remember reading about a bona fide, scientific study one time. There were numerous bucks being held inside a 200-acre, high fence enclosure. They turned a dozen hunters loose in there for two days with instructions to kill every buck they saw.

After two days there were ZERO bucks sighted.

Bucks are kind of like game wardens... just because you didn't see them, it doesn't mean they didn't see you. emoBigsmile

Well. there is 2 fawns and a doe dead on Hickory valley Today. Looks like fresh kills. I wish that lady protesting the hunt realizes that the cars killed at least 1/8 what the hunters did in one night. And the cars roll year round! i also saw 7 different deer this afternoon within 40 yards of the road.

I would attribute the low harvest to fact that there is a large moon, and the weather was a bit warm and rainy. I would say the second hunt will have better harvest numbers. Lets hope so!

If enough knowledgeable people speak up I believe the right actions will be taken emoGeezer Write or call your commisioners and let let them know how you feel about the deer hunts.http://www.hamiltontn.gov/commission/EmailForm.aspx I personally believe we all shouldrely on the TWRA suggestionsabout the well being of our wildlife andlet our commisioners know that if theyover rule the TWRAon these huntsemoTskTskthey need to respond back stating what quilifies them to know what is best for the deer population

Wait till the Rut starts Hickory valley is going to look like a slaughter house. Hope not but usually when you have that many deer confined to that small an area there will be a lot lost lost on the roads. Or so I am told.
