A few months ago, I bought an elderly Johnson 150 from wretchin2, that James rebuilt for me. She's still a strong old gal under the cowl, but on the surface she is kind of careworn and shows a bit of wear and tear and her age is showing.
The similarity came to me one day as I watched my wife transform herself from what I have to see everyday into what you get to see when we go out in public. With a little filler and primer, base paint and some highlights, an old gal can be made to look pretty darn good. Maybe not like brand new, but still quite attractive.
With this new insight, I bought some cans of primer and 1979 Johnson white, and found some aftermarket vinyl Johnson decals for the year model. A bit of sanding and surface prep followed by taping, primer, paint, and then the decals, and the miracle that Mrs EricM performs on herself worked just as well on that old motor.
I am extremely pleased with the transformation, and although not at all perfect, it too is still quite attractive.
However, Mrs EricM wasn't particularly pleased with my wording in this post.
I expect to be healed enough to take the boat out again sometime next week.
