Went out on a BEAUTIFUL Monday to see if anything was happening at the nuke plant without much water flow. It was SLOW SLOW SLOW. Several boats managed only a few fish, but everyone looked happy in the sunshine anyway. I caught a 12 lb blue cat on a piece of skipjack, but then pretty much no nibbles after that, so I took out the cast net and threw at some areas that showed some fish, but I only got 2 big gizzard shad for my efforts. I put the smaller of the two, which was still 9 or 10 inches long (huge), onto a 4/0 circle hook on my - of course - 6 pound test rig. Sure enough, in one of my favorite drifts, a good fish hit. I got it up to the boat early, but the fish had other ideas before I could net it and went back down, about doubling the length of the fight. I finally netted the fish, which bottomed out my 30 pound scale pretty easily, and being in a lazy mood, rather than get out the other scale, I just did a photo and release.

No other hits today. And no sunburn (I slathered on 30 spf before I went)!
