EricM, Chick, Big Blue Cats and Bass Boats Galore, 04-14-11, A boatload of fishermen!!!
I hauled a crew of 4 and myself out for a long day with the catfish. Left the house at 7:30 am and got home at 6:30 pm. Wore may ancient butt out!!!!!! Made me take lots of pain meds too!! emoBigsmile
I was scared to death that puddlejumper and cathooker had given the sore mouth to all of the cats out there after their great day yesterday. Apparently they didn't do too much damage because we had a terrific day with lots of big cats caught, as well as 2 coolers full of small (6 to 12 pound) cats. All four fishermen caught trophy (30 lb+) cats, which in itself was terrific and very unusual, but lots of big fish 18+ were boated and two really nice fish were fought and the hook pulled out at some point late in the fights. At least two of the men caught their personal best fish (48 and 45 lbs), and all caught their PB freshwater fish!
The front of the boat caught nearly all of the fish before lunch (at Aries). After lunch, without changing places or rods, the back of the boat caught nearly all of the fish. Really strange, but hilarious (to those catching the fish, anyway). Also suprising was that for most of the morning, the fish (in the front of the boat) were almost always double hook-ups. Two big fish at a time had me hopping. I'd land one and they'd take pictures while I landed the other and get everyone baited up and back on our drift line. There were several times that pics were taken with the two front seaters sitting back-to-back and fighting really nice fish. What a hoot they had!
I saw 2,735 high-speed tournament bass boats scream past us during the day. Pretty much all of them were wrapped with sponsor logos. Nearly every one had one, and usually two, power poles for anchoring in shallow water. Interesting! We don't see a lot of those on the lake here. I hope they had half the day that we did. The weather was absolutely perfect for a day of fishing - bass or catfish. Luckily, I had slathered on SPF 30 sunscreen before I left the house and was protected. It was an easy day to get burned up without realizing it.
My butt is dragging badly, but I had a great time, and more importantly, my fishermen had a terrific time. One even said it was his best day of fishing ever! Made me feel good!!!!!!
Here are a couple of pics - I only took a few since they were taking their own today:
