I posted a while back that I was having trouble getting the boat on plane with 4 folks on board.
The boat is a little underpowered and I was looking for ideas. I got a bunch of good responses and a few pm's on the subject, and I elected to buy a $50 (plus shipping) hydrofoil to see if that would correct my hole-shot problem. The Honda already had the holes drilled to mount a hydrofoil, and several brands would fit the same hole pattern.

I chose the S E Sport 300, a one-piece composite unit. In less than 10 minutes I had it bolted up and was ready to test it. I took the boat out this morning to put another protective layer of catfish slime on it, so I hit it hard to see if I could tell a difference in performance.

I was pleasently surprised. The boat seemed to pop up pretty quickly and stays on plane at lower speeds. I need to fill the boat up with bodies and give it a true test, but right now I think that it has solved my underpowered hull/heavy load problem. I'll report again when I find out.

I really can't tell if it increased or decreased the top-end speed. At 24-26 mph, it's not all that important anyway................

Generally they will help the hole shot due to they force the bow down. It will slow it down UNLESS while running the foil is out of the water. Most aren't and will add extra drag slowing it down. Always pro's and con's with everything. Keep us up to date with a load.

A stainless Steel prop will help overall performance might solve hole shot and give you a little more gas mileage. They are expensive though.

Eric, if your engine is setup right on your boat(the right height on the transome) you will not any any resistance to slow you down. The foil should be on top uf the water arch when you are on plane. One thing that you will have to adjust for is the stopping distance. When you put the brakes on with the foil you will plane a little further before the hull drops into the water.

I would suggest that you try and find a four(4) blade prop for your boat. With your foil and 4 blades your boat would preform with the load like someone else's boat. I have a 4 blade Rev-4 for my merc that I put on for hauling a load of tourest and pulling water toys. Makes a world of differance in pulling power, hole-shot, midrange power and turning control.
