I have been shooting a cheap multi-pump BB/pellet rifle around the property (with limited success), so after finally getting frustrated with its 5-shot pattern reminiscent of my shotgun with a skeet choke, I ordered a Gamo Socom carbine break barrel in .177 cal with a 3 x 9 scope and a bull barrel. They are - or were as of three days ago - on sale at Cabela's Bargain Cave for $150 instead of the regular $300. It came today and I am amazed. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this rifle is beyond any air gun I have experienced. Solid and well made, with the heft of a deer rifle, and with a much better scope than I expected for the price. It shoots pellets up to 1200 fps (lead at 1000 fps) and sounds a bit like shooting .22 shorts. I think I'll run maybe 100 shots through it to break it in before I zero the scope.
