Hey folks I've got a question , my boat has not been move since last fall with work and duck season. Well now since duck season is about over , its time to break out the big boat. My thing is, it sitting there with about 30 gallons of ethajunk in it. I thought about removing the fuel line at the tank and use a 12th volt fuel pump and pump it out. What would be the best route to go hear. I would rather lose the 30 gallons as apossed to major engine problems

I think I'd add some Stabil/ethanol treatment...and run it out...rather than throw $100+ worth of gas away, unless you was going to burn it in your car or something.

In my opinion, it is penny wise and pound foolish to run last year's ethanol gasoline in your outboard engine. I would pump it out into a separate container and add 5 gallons at every fillup in my auto. No sense throwing it out when it will perform well when mixed with fresh fuel. I've even run it this way in my lawn mower and weed eater with no problems. However, I always discard the last half gallon because any water will have settled to the bottom.

Ok thanks I believe that's a good idea to blend it away in my truck. I rather go that route as to use it in my outboard. I might pump it in to a drum and add stability and try to agitate it with something. Thanks again

Tough call on this one. Ethanol laced gasoline begins a phase separation, after 90 days. The gas, ethanol and water separate into layers and "can" if left in the tank, long enough form a nasty looking orange jelly. You're probanly ok but I would disconnect the fuel line, as close to the tank, as possible and pipe it to your container. By piping, I mean, a hose. I would want to watch every drop, that came out, just in case, you get a little jelly, for your toast. A clear glass filter housing or clear gas rated hose, should work. A regular gas line emptied into a clear container should work, as well. You may be able to get a syphon going. I hate saying this but I wouldn't hesitate, you could put very slight pressure on your tank, to get flow. The tank will be vented but still takes very little pressure. Taking the gas from the line going to the engine will let you take a look at exactly what is going there. This may sound like a little overkill but your just emptying the tank from the bottom, instead of pumping or syphoning it out the filler neck. If you get some junk, then it's in a container and not running thru your carbs or injectors. Your going to treat your gas, next year, aren't you? I believe you

Guys, please be aware that StaBil does absolutely NOTHING for old fuel. It's OK if added to fresh fuel as a stabilizer and preservative. StarTron is the additive that you want. It has been proven to rejuvenate fuel that has sat for 6 months or longer. Even then ... I wouldn't run that fuel in my boat. Mix it in a little at a time in your lawnmower.

I've got an old 12 bolt fuel pump I used on a samuria and I was gonna remove the fuel line at the tank and pump it out. Im gonna replace fuel line and all I can pump it though a filter and see what I get

Make sure you raise or lower your tongue jack to find the sweet spot, while your pumping your tank out. I'm a tight wad and know the cost of 30 gallons of fuel but a $100 would be nothing compared to the potential repair cost of something you put bad fuel in. I would only use the gas in something, I didn't care about and considered throwaway. The fuel won't go to waste, if you care about all your stuff, there are plenty of people that wouldn't hesitate, to fill their tank with it. Be honest with them and after that, it's in the Lord's hands.

Yeah the 100 dollars in fuel is nothing when it comes to an outboard cost. I know I should have treated last year , but I didn't. So if any thing ill dump it or start a very big brush fire

hey guys , i pumped it out today inyo a small drum, i placed the hose in a mason jar so i could look at it as it was pumping, the gas looked good , no gel seperation, i put some stabil in it , and put 5 gallons in my tacoma( 3/4 tank) to blend it , came to work , no missing , ran fine so far. Least i got it out of my boat. thanks guys

Yeah, I've blended old gasoline with fresh for years and years. Never had a problem with it. I do believe fuel mileage is hurt using the blend due to lower potency, but I did not want to throw it out.

I have a friend who has let old e-based fuel sit in a 5 gallon glass demijon to see if water settled into the bottom. Sure enough, he saw about 1/4 cup of water settle into the low spot of the container (he tipped the demijon slightly to create the smaller low spot). Just to see if it could be done, he siphoned the water out of the low spot by placing the siphon hose directly into the low spot. He said 24 hours later he could not see any water in the low spot.

Water in a compression engine of any type is a problem because it cannot be compressed enough to avoid mechanical damage to engines.

Ethanol fuel needs to go away, I use gas with no ethanol added in my boat. There is no profit in the process of producing it and if it wasn't for our goverments support they would go out of business.

Here's what I am wanting to know.....
If and when we can no longer get ethanol free gas WHAT THEN?
Is there a treatment that turns the ethanol gas into usable gas without the harmful effects of ethanol???
