Evinrude how to tell the exact yr ?

Hey I bought this 88spl the data tag on the motor mount is gone, and the freeze plug on top doesn't have anything on it either .. the only numbers I can find is between the heads on top of the block that was under paint

and this date and code out from it
6-17-87 4783

Im assuming that the 6-17-87 is date block was made or installed ?

any help ? anyone ?

If the metal tag is missing, you are up the creek on finding out the model, most times the tag is cut off so that no one can trace the motor.

Ask the guys over on iboats.com , they always know for some reason, and take a pic.

I dont think it was cut off .. it was in salt water guy moved up here from FL last year .. and the motor has also been painted two tone crappy shades of blue, either the tag came off due to salt corrosion, or was taken off to paint it
