Just bought a boat today with an Evinrude XP150 on it, boat is an 89 model, I have the numbers on the motor if needed, it is a carb'd motor, did a compression test and 1-4 cylinders read 115, 5 & 6 read 75 & 90. From what I could tell the motor sounded good at first very smooth and solid, then after a couple of minutes it started getting a little rough then after about 6 or 8 mins the buzzer went off at the gear shifter. I shut it down and waited about 20 mins and fired it up and it was still buzzing and I pushed in the choke and the motor cleared up but I shut it off very quickly due to buzzer. The water was circulating/pumping during this whole time as well. You could put your hands on the cylinders w/o burning you so I wasn't sure if they had a cooling sensor on them that would cause it to go off or something else????? I know the compression being down is obviously a problem, was gonna try to run a tank or two of SeaFoam thru it but i think it is past that already.

I am at the point of letting someone more qualified/reputable look at it please. Any help would be appreciated!

Good luck. I have the same motor and James had to rebuild it for me last year, but it runs like a champ now.

Good, that's what I'm hearing. I'm gonna let him do his magic on it. I don't wanna be stuck on the water for sure.
