I recently asked a long time rude machanic if he had any tips for me to support keeping my engine running for as long as I could. He told me that what he had been doing and several others had too.
Crimping the oil return line before the pressure switch or check valve I think he said. I also noticed in the service manual in the break in procedures this is mentioned. he said to crimp line until engine smokes up. Cut it off let it set until next trip then it will smoke up again. Do this every month or so. The idea being getting the carbon out.
Has anyone heard of or doing this.

If de-carbing is the point, I'd think running an additive such as Seafoam or something similar on a regular basis would be a better alternative.

I agree. What I know about them is to decarb every 50 hrs or so with the ring free "spray in"product and run XD-100 oil. I would also recommend running Sea-foam or B-12 in the fuel to constantly keep the carbon in check. It can get to a point where it's effects are not reversable. By crimping off the oil return line, you adding more oil and as Beetlesaid, it will cause more deposits.

I would only seecrimping off the hosehelping if you are storing it for the winter. That would put a heavy coat of oil on everything and act like a fogging oil for storage. Just my .02

The reason it is in the service manual under break in, is because the oil system is usually empty or has air in it. This is to help purge the system and to make it start working correctly sooner. Very similiar to changing the oil in you car. Until the new filter fills up, you are not getting oil. This is just a method to lessen the time with no oil.
