Hey Al ..
I have some guide wraps on old favorite rods that have worn out.. several fenwick lunker stick rods and some old 80s BPS rods all need either guides replaced or wraps over hauled .. Ive never wrapped a rod .. but was gonna give it a shot .. cant be as complicated as crankbaits ! .. any way I have bunch of fly tying thread just wondering what size for guides ?

Thanx

I'm not FA, but the sizes (for actual rod thread) are normally A for most light freshwater rods (this includes bass rods). FA, of course, is the resident expert.

I don't know how that translates into fly-tying thread, but I suppose that depends on the thread you normally use--I know Gudebrod seems to market their thread as being dual purpose. What's always a pain is finding the right color to match...

You should use size "A" for the smaller guides and size "D" for the larger guides and butt wraps. To make the epoxy cure the rod will need to be "turned" at a slow rpm for at least 24 hours. My advise.. take your rods to one of the local guys that build rods and already have the equipment.

I have a turner ( I use rotisserie motors work great ) .. I uses it to turn the crankbaits I make to let the clear coat dry so it dosent sag and run, and there is no way Id pay someone else to do it .. Im too cheap/poor for that lol

geek, I use either A or C thread that is made for wrapping rods....I have never used the fly tying stuff and personally would not recomend using it.... sometimes I use D size but the above 2 mostly....gudebode makes an excellent thread and I would use that product....some threads you must use a color presever. give me a call and I will give you free lessons.....FA
